DBS Outdoor Unit Solutions

Entropic's DBS Outdoor Unit Solutions consist of our Band Translation Switch (BTS) and Channel Stacking Switch (CSS) products which fundamentally change the way DBS providers deliver content into the home. In a traditional satellite installation, each tuner usually requires a unique cable from the satellite dish to the STB to receive the full channel line up. This can result in significant cabling complexity and installation costs.

Entropic’s DBS Outdoor Unit Solutions eliminate this complexity and significantly lower service provider installation and upgrade costs.  Our DBS outdoor unit solutions are able to support up to 12 tuners over a single cable and can leverage the coax cabling already existing in most homes.  In addition, Entropic’s DBS outdoor unit solutions simplify the installation required to support simultaneous reception of multiple channels from multiple satellites over a single cable. This capability is critical to allow a satellite receiver to enable PIP viewing or to record and watch two or more programs simultaneously using a single cable. In cable TV systems, all the channels are available over the coax connected to the TV set or the cable STB. In satellite systems, the number of channels available from multiple satellites typically exceeds the channel carrying capabilities of the connecting cable. The CSS and BTS technologies are designed to select desired satellite channels and re-arrange them for delivery to the indoor STB over a single connecting cable.

Entropic's DBS Outdoor Unit Solutions provide a simplified cabling architecture which enables DBS providers to deploy STBs, with multiple tuner capabilities, in multiple rooms and roll out new services without expensive installation and retrofitting, while improving aesthetics for the homeowner.
